June 30, 2020 @ 7:00PM — 8:00PM
Please join us as we share an excerpt from Citizen, an internationally celebrated work by YYDC founder and artistic director Yin Yue. After the viewing we will host a conversation and Q&A with Yin about the work, her plans to expand it to an evening-length performance, and its relevance to the current moment.
CITIZEN: A work in progress
Tuesday, June 30th at 7pm (EST)
Last year, first at Schrit_tmacher Festival in Aachen, Germany and then at BAM Fisher (Fishman Space), YYDC presented a new choreographic work entitled Citizen. The work incorporated original music, movement and themes reflecting Yin Yue's personal journey as a female choreographer born and trained in China while continuing her career in the West. Yin's life and work consistently reflect these influences, fusing the traditions of Chinese folk and contemporary western dance movement.
Since last year's premiere, the world has changed. We find ourselves living through a health crisis, an economic crisis, and a crisis of racial injustice. From Yin's perspective the notion of Citizenship - of the full and equal participation in society of all persons regardless of gender or race or orientation - has come into intense focus. Yin is working toward an evening-length expanded work around the ideas of unity and equality that reflect the current moment and our duty as citizens of the world.
Perhaps now more than ever we are seeking the healing power of art and narrative and performance. We invite you to share with us an evening of movement and art and discussion to reflect on these times and our hope for a better future.
Registration closes June 30th at 6pm or when all 100 tickets have been reserved.
