Entering 2022 with Embodied Virtuosity

Led by Founder and Artistic Director Yin Yue, YY Dance Company is a not-for-profit contemporary dance company based in New York City. The company's mission is to create, produce, and perform works of dance featuring Yin's signature FoCo Technique™, a unique synthesis of Chinese classical and contemporary western dance traditions. The company proudly collaborates with world-class dancers, musicians, and artists while teaching workshops to expand educational opportunities for all movers in the world of dance.

The last two years have been nothing if not challenging. YYDC, like so many other artistic entities and creative organizations, has persevered to continue its mission despite a lack of access to studios, theaters, and the alchemy of live performance. We created original works for highly-acclaimed companies such as Martha Graham Dance Company, Boston Ballet, Gibney Company, Tisch School of The Arts, and Peridance Contemporary Dance Company. Yin led teaching programs at numerous schools and universities and led nearly 300 hours of workshops and FoCo™ training both virtually and in-person to thousands of dancers across the globe. In November, YYDC preformed in front of live audience for the first time in two years during the 92Y Harkness Mainstage Series at Kaufmann Concert Hall with RIPPLE, which was praised by the critics as "a totally captivating performance" (David Mead, Seeing Dance).

Additionally, on December 6th, Yin will receive the 2021 Dance Magazine Harkness Promise Award for innovation in choreography at New York's Guggenheim Museum. We are enormously proud of the dedication and excellence Yin has shared through her choreographic craft and look forward to celebrating her achievement.

YYDC will present a world premiere evening-length dance work in May 2022. The 75-minute dance production will feature seven dancers and an original music score. To kickstart the creation, YYDC will bring the creative process to the audience during Works & Process at the Guggenheim Museum in March 2022, allowing the public to have an intimate look at the beginning of the two-month creation period.

We are asking you to consider making a gift today to help ensure our company's ongoing work now and into the future. We are deeply grateful for the passion and generosity of our supporters - without you the mission of YYDC would not be possible.

YYDC aims to explore unique movement vocabulary inspired by Chinese classical and folk dance elements, combined with contemporary dance technique, forming a hybrid of contemporary dance language called FoCo™ Technique.

The vision for YYDC is to incorporate this signature movement style in choreography and commission, to produce physically-charged performances under the direction of artistic director Yin Yue, and to present artistic responsibility through these socially conscious works national and internationally. It is our aspiration to continue establishing FoCo™ Technique as a fundamental training tool that advances dancers' practice and deepens their understanding of mindful physical practice. We are honored to have FoCo™ Technique recognized as a global training method for young and professional dance practitioners.

The company has presented works at dance festivals such as Schrit_tmacher Festival, SummerStage, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival Inside Out, New York International Fringe Festival, Open Door Dance Festival in Iowa City, The Wave Rising Series, DUMBO DANCE Festival, The Current Sessions, Dancenow [NYC] at Joe's Pub amongst many more. In addition to live performance, YYDC also has re-staged repertories at dozens of universities, professional companies, and dance studios around the world.
